A couple of days ago I checked the Lychee/Maple racing stripe I made the day before.  Well, that didn’t work.  Long story short, there was no way to insure a consistent thickness of the layers as I sand them down to size.  I should have gone directly to final dimensions prior to stripe glue-up.  Good firewood though.  SO, I made a new new stripe for the neck but decided to go with a 1/8-inch piece of Lychee sandwiched between two 3/32″ pieces of Yellowheart.  I think Yelowheart will be nicer than the stark Maple against Mahogany.

Today I took the “revised” neck stripe out of the glue-up jig and verified all dimensions…Good to go!  Split the neck in half, dimensioned the two halves to make sure they were of equal thickness via the drum sander and glued up the neck/racing stripe sandwich.  This should be interesting as I plan on splitting the neck for the neck scarf joint and, of course, inverting one of those neck pieces on top of the other.  The challenge is will  the racing stripe line up properly.  Theoretically, it should but it’s a great opportunity for another piece of firewood.  Yes, they’re easier ways to do this but there are reasons for this path and it “should work”…in theory 🙂

Also took the time to glue on the head and tail blocks.  Pretty straight-forward.  Just trimmed the side ends square and precisely along the centerline, put a 45 deg relief along the tail & head blocks for aesthetics, and glue the whole thing up.  Those sides bent so pretty that I’m not concerned about spring-back while the sides are outside the mold.
