Just returned from CA and finally got back into the shop, at least for a few hours. Found a nice piece of Sapele Mahogany to prep the neck blank, ears, and the head & tail block. Decided I was tired of eye-balling the neck scarf joint so (finally) made myself a jig to give me a nice 15 deg angle cut.
Mark needs to make his first decision. Many of my ukes have a “head-to-toe” stripe but I’m thinking it would be a bit much for a concert. Because the Mahogany is very nice looking, I’m thinking the only embellishment along the neck backside will be a few ebony slices between neck block pieces. Something like this or maybe just 3 stripes.
Well, I rather like the go faster strip on the tenor you made, I think it makes me play faster!
That said, I will of course be guided by my master luthier Kona Tom so am happy to go with the layout you included. Looking forward to your next post.
Well, maybe a single ebony stripe instead of a sandwich of 3. I’ll noodle on it.
