Today I created holes. By far the most challenging hole was the sound port. After making a number of sound port sizes via powerpoint, I had to decide how to make it. I tried using a template with a router bushing/collar and while it worked beautifully on a flat surface, it certainly wasn’t working on the curved side of an ukulele. Finally settled on freehand using a Dremel router on my Stew-Mac mount. After sanding to the desired shape, I added some vertical bracing on two of the sides of the oval and strengthened the oval edge by “brushing” on thin CA glue.
The other holes were far easier. Added a hole for mounting the neck and added a hole in the heel block for the pickup. Brad-point bits make life much easier!
